A ByteMap is an 8-bit image or more typically recognized as a grayscale image. Each pixel can have a value ranging from 0 to 255 Each value is associated to a color via a look-up table, whereas, for greyscale images, the color 0 is usually black and the color 255, white. A ByteMap is saved as a BMP file which can be displayed by any image viewer.
